Key Benefits

Why Choose Insulating Matting

Electrical Working Surface

EPDM rubber insulating surface for designated electrical and high-voltage working areas — manufacturer-stated Class 0.

Fine Fluted Rib Surface

Ribbed surface supports firmer technician footing and improved standing comfort.

10-Metre Roll Coverage

1 m × 10 m roll for planned work-zone coverage, loose-lay installation, no adhesive required.

EV Workshop Application

Specified by BYD as part of its EV workshop safety requirements.

The Problem

Workshop Floors Are Not an Electrical Safety Control

Technicians working in designated electrical service areas may require an insulating surface between themselves and the workshop floor.

Insulating matting forms one part of a wider electrical safety system that includes isolation, controlled access, correct PPE and trained procedures. It does not replace them.

What the matting does

  • Provides an insulating surface between the technician and the workshop floor
  • Forms one component of a wider electrical safety system
  • Selected as part of the BYD EV workshop safety specification

Part of a wider safety system

  • Electrical isolation
  • Lockout/tagout
  • Correct PPE
  • Insulated tools
  • Controlled access
  • Trained procedures

Matting does not

  • Makes live work safe
  • Eliminates electric-shock risk
  • Replaces insulating gloves or boots
  • Replaces electrical isolation
  • Replaces risk assessment
  • Protects against every voltage level
  • Provides arc-flash protection
Where It Is Used

Designated Electrical Work Areas

High voltage areas
Open switchboards
EV service bays
High-voltage workstations
Battery service areas
Electrical inspection zones
EV training facilities
Fleet workshops
OEM service centres

Final suitability depends on the task, electrical exposure, site layout, risk assessment and verified product rating.

Coverage & Layout

Planning Your Insulating Work Area

  • Each roll is 1 metre wide and 10 metres long
  • The required coverage depends on the work-zone dimensions
  • Matting should be positioned to support the technician's expected standing and movement area
  • Gaps, movement and trip hazards should be avoided
  • Final layout should follow the site risk assessment and supplier instructions

ISOVOLT does not calculate a guaranteed number of rolls for a workshop without site dimensions.

Installation & Use

Using Electrical Insulating Matting

  • 1Complete a task-specific electrical risk assessment
  • 2Confirm that the selected matting class is suitable for the work
  • 3Position the matting on a clean, stable, dry indoor surface (loose lay — no adhesive required)
  • 4Cover the required standing and movement area
  • 5Avoid folds, raised edges and trip hazards
  • 6Keep the matting away from sharp objects
  • 7Do not use damaged or contaminated matting

The matting is not described as permanently fixed unless confirmed. Adhesive or joining instructions are not provided without supplier documentation.

Inspection, Cleaning & Storage

Care & Maintenance

  • Record inspections according to the site procedure

Cleaning

  • Hose down or pressure wash using a mild detergent (as specified by COBA Africa)
  • Intended for dry indoor use — allow to dry fully before returning to service
  • Do not apply unverified solvents or chemicals

Storage
